Society of Hermits is a papermaking, bookbinding, and fine art studio in Los Angeles County. Specializing in unique artist driven substrates and hand-bound artist books and structures, we believe the touch of handmade paper can take a work to a higher, more complete level of finish. Paper connects all of us -- we are so familiar with it. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that we strive to create paper that steps outside the mundanity of everyday paper, presenting something that surprises, adds mystery, and captivates the viewer with a distinctively tactile experience. We work closely with artists to make personally tailored editions of paper from the pulp up, creating unique blends of fibre that may be a mix of a couple's favorite clothing items blended together to make paper for a wedding invitation, or using traditional birthing cloths to create pieces for an edition of large (30x50 inch) sheets used in the artist’s exhibition. We also do small editions of binding and box building, working again to create an individually tailored artist’s book or edition.
