Moore Wood Type is dedicated to both preserving and reimagining the timeless craft of letterpress printing. We create high-quality wood type, ornaments, and catchwords from end grain sugar maple, honoring the legacy of historic printing while meeting the needs of today’s printers and designers.
Founder Scott Moore began making wood type in 2009, combining knowledge passed down from Hamilton Wood Type craftsman Norb Brylski with his background in woodworking and education. What started with a pantograph has grown into a studio that blends traditional techniques with modern laser technology.
In 2025, Scott welcomed his first apprentice, Brea Frey, continuing the centuries-old tradition of passing down this craft. Together, they are building a collaborative, creative studio grounded in accuracy, craft, and community.
Whether you’re a seasoned printer or just starting out, Moore Wood Type is here to support your process.
